My Time as a Zoom Secretary

I had never considered myself for taking on a Zoom meeting. I’ve chaired face-to-face meetings for my home group, but I always shied away from anything tech-based. However, somebody had considered me for the role, and I was asked to stand for the position. At first, I did it out of responsibility to my sponsor, who also believed I could handle it, but it soon became one of the best service positions I’ve ever taken on.

At the start, my tech skills were somewhat short of what was required, but I had a lot of support. As time passed, I grew into the task and came to enjoy it. This position meant representing RtR to the rest of AA, and finding the speakers gave me immense respect and empathy for the sharers. I felt responsible for the meeting and for carrying the message to the members in the room.

I finished the meeting rotation with great memories and a sense of growth and achievement. It also taught me to take on things I feel are beyond me or that I don’t initially want to do — and I’m extremely grateful for that period of my recovery.
